Rooted in tradition

Our Savior's Lutheran Church was founded in the traditions of local Germans and Scandinavian Lutherans who wanted to bring two separate churches of Chokio together to share the Word of God.  Zion Evangelical Lutheran (ELC) and St. Paul's Lutheran (ALC) incorporated under the name "OUR SAVIOR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH" in 1955 in anticipation of a merger of the two synods which would eventually become the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, of which we are still members of today.  Services and activities were held at both locations until it became understood:

". . . that the building of a new church was imperative, not only because the old buildings were inadequate,

but also in order to more solidly concentrate the hope and efforts of the members of this new congregation."

                                                                                                                                                                                                            - Our Savior's Dedication booklet

On April 15, 1959 construction began and was completed in January 1960 with dedication of our new House of the Lord in February of the same year.  We have been worshiping and praising our Lord and Savior with "hope and effort" in it's walls ever since.  Our Savior's Lutheran still stands as a fixture in the Chokio community serving generations of Lutherans for over 50 years.  We invite you to attend our worship services, special events, and Bible studies.  We pray that God's love and everlasting grace be granted to all who enter here.
